The ‘Aurora’ grapevine is a hybrid variety originating in France, valued for its versatility, resistance, and early ripening. It is also known by the synonym Seibel 5279.
‘Aurora’ has medium-sized, cylindrical, dense clusters weighing around 100-150 grams. The berries are medium-sized, round, greenish-yellow to yellow-green with a waxy coating. They may take on a reddish tinge on the sunny side. The flesh is juicy and the taste is pleasantly sweet, dessert-like, and slightly fruity.
It is an early variety, ripening in 108 to 115 days, usually in early September. However, under certain conditions, the harvest may not be ready until October. The ‘Aurora’ variety provides stable and high yields.
'Aurora' is relatively easy to grow. It thrives in sunny and well-ventilated locations, protected from cold winds. It prefers light, well-drained soils with neutral acidity. The vine is a thermophilic plant that thrives at an altitude of 200-250 m. The soil should be rich in nutrients, especially phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and calcium. It grows to a height of 2 to 4 meters and is ideal for growing on supports such as pergolas.
A great advantage of this variety is its high frost resistance, tolerating frosts down to -28 °C, as well as its very good resistance to fungal diseases. Thanks to its resistance, it is also suitable for cultivation in colder and submontane areas and is an ideal choice for beginners.
'Aurora' is a versatile variety. It is suitable for direct consumption as table grapes, but is mainly used for the production of white wines. Wines made from it have a light color, good acidity, and a light fruity aroma, and are sometimes used to make sparkling wines.
