Family Apple Tree (4 in 1): Krapes Cukuriņš + Bumbierābele + Melba + Krista

A unique fruit collection combining the best of northern and Canadian breeding. Ensures sequential ripening of aromatic fruits from August through the end of February.

1. Apple 'Krapes Cukuriņš' (Late Summer Variety)

An excellent, exceptionally sweet "Candy from Krape" featuring low acidity and good frost hardiness.

The fruit season on this tree is opened by the Latvian folk-selected variety 'Krapes Cukuriņš'. It is likely a cross between the traditional 'Cukuriņš' and 'White Transparent'. It is highly sought after for its pure sweet taste, making it a favorite apple especially for children.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Candy-like taste: Delicious, sweet, aromatic flesh with very low acidity.
  • Early bearing: The tree begins producing fruit very quickly after planting.
  • Resilience: Good frost hardiness and high resistance to powdery mildew.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Appearance: Medium to smaller spherical fruits. Greenish-yellow color with nice pink to red stripes on the sunny side.
  • Harvest Time: Late summer variety (during August).
  • Storability: Short, intended for immediate consumption and summer processing.

2. Apple 'Bumbierābele' (Summer Variety)

Tallinn Pear Apple – an ancient 18th-century Estonian variety featuring a distinct and sweet pear-like flavor.

Following 'Krapes Cukuriņš' comes 'Bumbierābele' (historically known as Tallinna pirnõun). It is one of the oldest recorded northern varieties, highly prized for its exceptional flavor and used for centuries in breeding programs. It offers a unique, pear-like taste.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Historical Gem: A traditional, time-tested landrace from Estonia.
  • Pear-like Flavor: Very sweet fruits with soft, melting flesh and a distinct pear note.
  • Hardiness: Excellent wood frost resistance.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Appearance: Medium-sized, broad-conical fruits (60 – 100 g). The greenish-yellow to whitish base color is almost completely covered with deep red and prominent striping.
  • Harvest Time: Second half of August.
  • Storability: Very short, meant for immediate consumption or quick processing.

3. Apple 'Melba' (Late Summer Variety)

World-famous Canadian legend featuring an unmistakable, highly aromatic flavor and the heritage of the famous 'McIntosh'.

At the turn of August and September, the famous 'Melba' steps in (bred in Canada in 1898). It is an extremely popular variety whose primary asset is its fantastic, highly aromatic scent and flavor, making it one of the best summer apples in the world.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Outstanding Aroma: Extremely strong, captivating scent (inherited from the 'McIntosh' variety).
  • Juicy Taste: Very juicy, pleasant, and harmoniously sweet-sour flesh.
  • Attractive Look: Fairly large, yellow-green fruits with a beautiful red blush and striping.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Harvest Time: Late summer variety (late August).
  • Storability: Short, intended for immediate consumption and quick processing (compotes, purees, jams).
  • Note: Susceptible to scab, so plant in dry, well-ventilated locations.

4. Apple 'Krista' (Autumn to Early Winter Variety)

A highly productive and attractive Estonian variety with bright red fruits and storability until the end of February.

The family tree is closed by the successful Estonian breeding 'Krista' (2007). It is highly valued for its annual heavy crop (20 – 30 kg per tree) and excellent transportability due to its firm white flesh.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Reliable yields: A heavy and regular crop every year.
  • Attractive fruits: Bright red apples with high market and ornamental value.
  • Good storability: Keeps fresh until the end of February under good conditions.
  • Firm flesh with a good, balanced sweet-sour taste, highly transportable.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Appearance: Medium to large (100 – 200 g) spherical fruits. The whitish-yellow base color is mostly covered with bright red.
  • Harvest Time: First half of September. Note: Delayed harvesting may cause the fruit to drop, so timely picking is recommended.
