Nashi - Chinese varieties

Pyrus × bretschneideri (Chinese pear) is a deciduous tree of the Rosaceae family, native to northern China. Botanically, it is a taxon adapted to colder continental climates. The fruit is a pome, which, unlike other Asian types, typically has an elongated, pear-shaped form. The skin is smooth, thin, pale yellow to white. The flesh is specific in its texture: it is firm, crisp, extremely juicy, and characterized by a long shelf life. Nutritionally, the fruit is valued for its high water and fiber content, which promotes hydration and digestion, while having a low energy value. They are a source of potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin K. Their phytochemical profile is rich in phenolic compounds, especially chlorogenic acid and the glycoside arbutin, which provide antioxidant protection and promote urinary tract health. The flesh also contains sclereids (stone cells), which give it a fine grain.
