Multi-graft tree

This category includes a specific type of fruit tree in which several different varieties of the same fruit are grafted onto a single trunk (rootstock). A typical example is a multi-variety apple tree, on which 3 to 4 different apple varieties grow side by side. 

The most important advantages of multi-variety trees:
Efficient use of space (ideal fruit trees for small gardens): Multi-variety trees are the optimal solution for plots with limited planting space. They allow for the cultivation of a wide range of varieties without the need to establish a large orchard.
Optimized pollination conditions: Most fruit species require cross-pollination for a bountiful harvest. Varieties bred for family trees are expertly selected to serve as mutual pollinators. This ensures a high pollination rate and a stable harvest even if there are no other fruit trees in the immediate vicinity.
Extended harvest period (gradual ripening): The combination of summer, fall, and winter varieties on a single tree ensures a continuous harvest over a longer period of time. This allows the grower to avoid a sudden surplus of fruit and extends the period during which fresh fruit can be enjoyed.

Wide variety of varieties and flavors: A single tree provides fruit with different flavor profiles, colors, and uses (fresh consumption, storage, processing).
 Expert tip for growers: When pruning fruit trees, it is essential to maintain balance in the canopy. The goal of training and maintenance pruning is to ensure uniform growth of all grafted varieties, so that the more vigorous variety does not suppress the growth of the weaker one.
