Apple (Malus domestica) 'Tellissaare'
An Estonian winter variety with very high yield and excellent storability.
'Tellissaare' is an Estonian winter apple variety, valued for its very high and regular yield, very long storability, and high vitamin C content. The flavour of the fruits is sweet-tart, of average quality. Due to its qualities, it is often used in breeding new varieties.
Main advantages of the variety:
- Very high and regular yield (80–195 kg per tree).
- Very long storability (until April).
- High vitamin C content.
- Early entry into bearing.
- Resistance to fire blight.
Origin and Registration
- Country of origin: Estonia (Viljandimaa)
- Breeder: Jaan Tellisaar
- History: Bred in the 1920s, propagation began in the 1930s.
- Registration: In the Estonian recommended assortment since 1957.
Variety Characteristics
Tree
- Growth: Vigorous.
- Crown: Dense, globular.
Fruit
- Size and weight: Medium-sized, with a weight of 90 – 120 g.
- Shape and colour: Round to broadly round. Greenish-yellow, the blush is faint or absent.
