  • The black chokeberry is one of the interesting lesser-known fruits that is suitable for our conditions. It is native to North America, but the Nero variety was bred in Russia.
  • The Russian variety of Aronia Nero forms a bush from 1.5m to 2m. It is also decorative and can be grown as a hedge. It does not require pruning, fruiting at the ends of the branches.
  • The leaves of the chokeberry have a rounded shape and turn green in autumn, turning red.
  • Aronia Nero flowers in May and has small white flowers. It is self-pollinating.
  • The fruits are round in shape and resemble blackcurrants. They contain a lot of vitamin C and a large amount of antioxidants. They can be eaten fresh , but are also suitable for canning and juicing , or can be dried. The Nero variety is one of the most prolific Aronia.
  • The fruit ripens from the end of August to the beginning of September. They last a long time on the branches.
  • The plant is not demanding in terms of soil quality. It thrives even in poorer soils. It should be fertilised in spring for a better quality crop.
