An exceptionally early Latvian variety with extreme frost resistance and attractive pink-blushed berries.

The 'Rasa' variety is the definition of reliability for viticulturists in areas where other varieties fail to ripen. This Latvian hybrid, bred by pioneer Ēvalds Pūpols, is specifically designed for regions with very short and cool summers. It offers harvest security thanks to its frost resistance down to -30 °C and features visually appealing grapes that turn from white to soft pink in the sun.

• Extremely early ripening: Guaranteed sweet harvest even in short summers (ripe as early as August).
• Extreme frost resistance: Mature vines withstand temperatures down to -30 °C (-22 °F) without protection.

Vine / Shrub

• Vigor and Wood: Medium to strong vigor. One-year-old shoots ripen very early and well, which is key to its outstanding winter hardiness.
• Pollination: The flowers are hermaphroditic, making the variety fully self-fertile.

Bunches and Berries

• Bunches: Small to medium-sized, cylindrical-conical in shape, moderately dense and tidy.
• Berries: Medium-sized, round. The base color is yellow-green, but they develop attractive pink to reddish hues on the sunny side when fully ripe.
• Taste and Texture: The flesh is juicy and slightly gelatinous with a firmer skin. It has a very pleasant sweet taste with subtle fruity notes of strawberry or pineapple, typical of northern hybrids.

Resistance and Requirements

• Frost: One of the hardiest varieties available (-25 to -30 °C). Suitable for open, windy locations without winter protection for established plants.
• Diseases: High natural resistance to downy and powdery mildew, allowing for cultivation with minimal chemical treatment.
• Climate: A perfect choice for northern regions and higher altitudes with low active temperature sums.
