Family Apple Tree (4 in 1): Doch Melby + Gita + Mālābele (Serinka) + Ligita

The perfect combination of four varieties that ensures a continuous supply of fresh apples from late summer until spring. The ideal space-saving solution.

1. Apple 'Doch Melby' (Late Summer / Early Autumn Variety)

A highly productive Russian offspring of the 'Melba' apple, delivering juicy fruits and tolerating frosts down to -35 °C.

The 'Doch Melby' variety opens the harvest on this tree in late summer. Originating from the Leningrad region, it boasts fantastic frost hardiness and rich, regular crops of beautiful, red-blushed apples.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Extreme frost hardiness: Suitable even for harsh climates (withstands up to -35 °C / -31 °F).
  • Large fruits: Average weight 130 g, almost completely covered with an attractive red blush.
  • High productivity: Yields approx. 35 kg from its mature section of the canopy; high scab resistance.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Flavor and Flesh: White, very juicy, and pleasantly aromatic flesh.
  • Harvest Time: Late summer to early autumn (late August to early September).
  • Storability: Short shelf life, versatile use for fresh eating and processing.

2. Apple 'Gita' (Early Autumn Variety)

A dark red beauty with crunchy flesh that delivers extremely rich crops in mid-September.

The baton is smoothly passed to 'Gita', a Latvian cross between 'Liberty' and 'Melba'. It attracts with its spreading growth, dark leaves, and huge dark red fruits. It is highly valued for its consistent annual heavy crops and disease immunity.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Gorgeous color: Almost entirely dark red fruits with an elegant white waxy bloom.
  • Crunchy flesh: Firm and very juicy.
  • Excellent health: Resistant to scab (Vf/Rvi6 gene) with good frost hardiness.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Appearance: Large to very large (70–80 mm), oblong-conical fruits.
  • Harvest Time: In mid-September.
  • Storability: 2 – 3 months in standard cold storage. Tip: For the best fruit size, light thinning is recommended.

3. Apple 'Mālābele' / 'Serinka' (Autumn Variety)

A historical gem from Latvia that surprises with an absolutely unique, sweet-sour, and highly aromatic flavor.

During the autumn, 'Mālābele' (also known as Serinka) ripens. This is an old Latvian folk-selected variety. While visually it may not be a modern "beauty," its true value lies inside—it offers a unique tasting experience that modern varieties simply cannot replicate.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Unique flavor: Distinctly sweet-sour and highly aromatic.
  • High yield: Reliable apples great for processing and fresh eating.
  • Historical value: Proven by generations of growers.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Appearance: Medium-sized apples, grayish-yellow with a clay-pink blush and carmine stripes.
  • Harvest Time: During the autumn.
  • Resilience: The variety is somewhat susceptible to canker, thus requiring an airy crown and proper pruning.

4. Apple 'Ligita' (Winter Variety)

The perfect winter finale. Attractive yellow apples with comprehensive disease resistance and storability well into spring.

The family tree is crowned by the modern Latvian variety 'Ligita'. It ensures you have excellent, crunchy apples for the long winter months. The tree is easy to shape, but its biggest asset is absolute health—it is genetically resistant to scab and highly resistant to powdery mildew and fruit rot.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Comprehensive resistance: Immune to apple scab (Vf/Rvi6 gene) and fruit rot.
  • Long storability: Apples remain in superb condition in a standard cellar for 5–6 months.
  • Attractive appearance: Bright yellow fruits with an orange blush and a wonderful aroma.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Appearance and Taste: Small to medium spherical fruits. Yellow, firm, crunchy, and very aromatic flesh with a good sweet-sour flavor.
  • Harvest Time: Late harvest, just before winter.
  • Storability: Until March/April. The fruits hold firmly on the tree and do not drop before harvest.
