Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) OLLE

The Olle® cultivar (Vaccinium corymbosum Olle®) is one of the most unknown species on our market. It is particularly popular in Scandinavia and in its Swedish homeland. This tells us that it is also suitable for northern growing areas, as it is an example of a hardy, frost-resistant plant. 

The Olle cultivar boasts large, crunchy and tasty sweet berries with the typical blueberry flavour of the so-called 'bred Canadian blueberries'. The prolific clusters produce a harvest during August to September. However, in warmer areas it may be earlier. The fruit ripens gradually, not all at once. The upright, strong-growing bush reaches a size of 1.5 metres to 2 metres at maturity. Olle blueberry is considered self-pollinating, but cross-pollination with another plant, ideally another cultivar with the same flowering time, is nevertheless recommended and important. As is standard with blueberries, it requires an acidic pH and well-drained soil that is not fertilised with calcium fertilisers. The variety does not require major pruning. In particular, we remove overgrown, excess branches on the mature plant, or diseased and dry branches, so that they do not become a haven for pests and diseases.
