The Palatina grape variety, originally from Hungary, is a prized early to mid-early table variety that has gained popularity for its excellent taste, high yield and resistance. It was created in 1966 by crossing the varieties ‘Seyve Villard 12-375’ and 'Queen of Vineyards' . Palatina is characterized by medium to strong growth, making it suitable for growing on pergolas, and ripens from mid-August to early September. The bunches are medium to large, conical and moderately dense, weighing from 200 to 700 grams. The berries are medium to large, oval in shape and have a beautiful golden yellow to amber color. Their flesh is crisp and juicy, with a delicious sweet taste complemented by pleasant muscat and honey tones. The skin is thin but firm, which prevents the berries from cracking and makes them easy to transport. One of the most significant advantages of this variety is its high resistance to fungal diseases such as downy mildew and powdery mildew, as well as its good resistance to gray mold. It is also highly frost-resistant, as it can withstand temperatures down to -24 °C. It is not demanding in terms of soil and location, thriving best in a sunny spot in airy, well-drained soil. Due to its undemanding nature and resistance, it is also suitable for organic cultivation without the use of chemical sprays, making it an ideal choice for gardeners looking for a reliable and delicious grape variety for direct consumption.
