Peach (Prunus persica) 'Spura'

A collector's rarity from the Baltics with large and extra-tasty fruits.

'Spura' is an exceptionally rare and hard-to-find peach variety that is a true treasure for any collector and discerning gardener. It is prized for its large, firm, and very juicy fruits of excellent quality. The flesh is aromatic, very sweet with a mild acidity. Although its exact origin is unknown, it has proven itself in the harsh conditions of Estonia, which attests to its very good frost hardiness. The variety is self-fertile and, although slightly less productive than 'Maira', it compensates with larger and higher-quality fruits.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • A collector's rarity: Probably the rarest peach variety on the market.
  • Large fruits of excellent quality: Firm, very juicy, and larger than the 'Maira' variety.
  • Excellent sweet and aromatic taste.
  • Very good frost hardiness: Proven in Estonian conditions.
  • Self-fertile and highly productive.

Origin and Registration

  • Origin: Unknown (likely Latvia), proven in Estonia.

Variety Characteristics

Tree

It comes into bearing early, in the 3rd–5th year after planting. Productivity is very high. It is self-fertile. It requires a sunny location and, in harsher conditions, a protected site.

Fruit
  • Size: Large, larger than the 'Maira' variety.
  • Shape: Spherical.
  • Color: Yellow, with a red blush on the sunny side.
  • Flesh: Yellow, firm, very juicy.
  • Taste: Very sweet with a mild acidity, aromatic.
Resistance and Requirements
  • Frost hardiness: Very good, but flower buds can be damaged in cold winters.
  • Disease resistance: High, but it is moderately susceptible to leaf curl, which requires regular protection.
Growing Recommendations
  • Use: For fresh consumption, compotes, jams, and preserves.
Harvest and Storage
  • Harvest time: Mid-early, in the first half of August.
  • Transportability: Good.

Guarantee of Authenticity: This is likely the rarest peach variety on the market. We guarantee the delivery of the authentic 'Spura' variety, which has been proven in Estonia.
