Apple (Malus domestica) 'Ciprian'

Winter Romanian variety with scab immunity and attractive dark red fruits.

'Ciprian' is a highly valued winter apple variety bred at the SCDP Voinești station. It was created by crossing ‘Prima’ and ‘Starkrimson’. It is sought after for its excellent health status and high productivity. The fruits resemble the popular ‘Starkrimson’ in shape and dark red color but are more resistant to diseases.

• High and early yield (potential up to 49.5 t/ha).

Variety Characteristics

Tree

• Vigor: Medium.
• Bearing: Bears fruit predominantly on short spurs. Early bearing onset with good production capacity.

Fruit

• Size and Weight: Medium to large, 140 – 160 g.
• Shape and Color: Round to truncated conical, with 5 distinct ribs at the calyx (similar to ‘Starkrimson’). The skin is dark red to bordeaux, almost fully colored.
• Flesh: Creamy color, fine, crunchy, juicy, and aromatic.
• Taste: Good to very good.
• Usage: Intended for fresh consumption.

Resistance and Requirements

• Immunity: The variety is immune to Scab.
• Resistance: Has high resistance to Powdery Mildew and is also resistant to Fire blight.

Harvest and Storage

• Storage: Winter variety, lasts until March – April.
